This would be a good reason to consider video conferencing in lieu of written correspondence only, email or conventional teleconferencing.

This information is also very helpful for educators. Sometimes when we are conferencing with parents and we are discussing a delicate issue understanding these subtle gestures and cues could confirm our presumptions of the student's home environment.
