Is the U.S. in a Recession?

Gallup’s chief economist tackles this and other pressing questions -- and tells how business can protect itself if there’s a serious downturn

A GMJ Q&A with Dennis Jacobe, Ph.D., Gallup’s chief economist
This question has been nagging at executives, investors, and the media. Here, Gallup’s chief economist sheds some much-needed light on the subject. He also tells how companies can protect themselves if there’s a serious downturn and what managers -- many of whom have never lived through a real economic slump -- should know.

Mr.Jacobe,
Since the average American doesn't get a cost of living raise or anything to help them out...someone like Toyota ought to set an example and lead the way in putting out a vechile that gets 75-80mpg city and 90-100mpg hwy.(REGULAR GASOLINE), even if the people couldn't afford it, people always find a way if it is something they truely want. Instead of having the President of US tell Car Manf. to do it...have someone like Toyota or GM set the Pace and set the example for others to follow. By the time ALL the other guys got started Toyota of GM would already gave the market. It will take 2 or 3 years for the others to get evrything passed through congress. Thanks for your time in my thought of the day.

Gallup MBA/MA Program

The master's program designed by Gallup consulting experts and faculty from the top-ranked University of Nebraska-Lincoln is so different, alumni often call it the "Anti-MBA."

This program combines Gallup's best science in behavioral economics, management, leadership, HumanSigma, and strengths with the "lean thinking" pioneered by Toyota, and couples it with traditional business competencies, such as accounting, finance, and classic economics.

To learn more about the program, visit the Gallup/UNL MBA/MA in Executive Leadership Web site, or contact Mike Schmidt at 402.938.6285.
